But after a crafty bugler has been on the premises, the lock is now in pieces on the floor and the door is ajar. Your furniture is scattered and disheveled, all your expensive belongings are gone! Its your worst nightmare. How did they do it? How did they defeat it? We can show you how and exactly what you need to do to stop it from happening.

How often does it happen?

Lock snapping

There where 138 burglaries reported to South Wales Police in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot this time last year and 112 reported in December. Many of which remain unsolved due to insufficient evidence. You can get a more detailed look at your area here. The good news is that since the introduction of the anti snap cylinder almost a decade ago, reports of burglaries using this method and burglaries in general have gone down. We do not know what percentage of these burglaries were victims of lock snapping but its likely to be high.

What exactly is lock snapping?

A euro cylinder has a weak point at the center. Using household tools and the right knowledge it can be snapped in half leaving the internal locking mechanism exposed allowing trespassers access.

The classic euro cylinder lock is found in most UK homes that have wooden, composite or Upvc doors. So there are plenty of doors for criminals to choose from.

How can I protect myself against it?

Due to the rise in snapping, the security industry has come up with a solution that stops burglars in there tracks. The anti snap euro cylinder is what you are looking for. It is designed to break away from the lock body early leaving the lock center intact and keeping the door locked and keeping you and your belongings safe and secure.

Check to see if you are susceptible to snapping yourself by checking how far the cylinder sticks out on the outside of the door. Ideally you want the cylinder to be flush with handle. You dont want to give criminals anything they can grab hold of. Below is an example of what you want to avoid.
